What.cd used to be the most popular invite-only torrent site dedicated to music, but some time ago its users were greeted with a message claiming that the site is no more.
What.cd didn’t share a lot of info about the reason of it being shut down, but there are some reports indicating that France’s National Gendarmerie has seized the servers hosting the website, torrent tracker, and IRC channels. The website is no longer accessible, but a few days ago a message could be read on it which stated that all user data had been destroyed.
There is no news concerning What.cd owners; nobody knows whether there were any arrests related to the website.
What.cd was an answer to the oink.cd being shut down in 2007, and soon it grew into what it was best known for – the biggest music torrent site on the Internet. Even tho what.cd was an invite-only torrent site, it grew quickly into a website catering to millions of music lovers around the world.
This shut down has left a large number of music pirates without a place where they can find their favorite tunes, but as it is the case with most of the shut downs of this type, the users will find a new place. Despite the fact that what.cd doesn’t exist anymore, we are sure that the users will gather on a different torrent website, or they will create a new one.
